The African Cultural Foundation is pleased to announce the release of our new publication, “Intersecting Futures – Feminist Economics from the Perspective of Black Women.” The publication was developed as part of our workshop held on 20 May 2026 in Vienna, organized with the financial support of the Arbeiterkammer Wien, in cooperation with WIDE – Women in Development Europe.

 

The publication examines the economic realities of Black women and Women of Color and explores how racism, sexism, migration experiences, care work, and colonial continuities shape economic participation and social visibility. At the same time, it highlights alternative feminist visions for the future, solidarity-based economic models, and community-centered strategies for greater social and economic justice.

Building on the discussions and reflections from the workshop, the publication combines academic analysis, Black feminist perspectives, community experiences, and political recommendations. Key topics include labor market discrimination, financial exclusion, mental health, care work, migration, as well as decolonial and intersectional approaches to feminist economics.

The publication aims to contribute to a broader societal discussion on feminist economics, anti-racist feminism, and structural inequality in Austria and across Europe. It emphasizes that economic justice cannot be addressed separately from questions of social, racial, and gender-based power structures.

Creating a space in which Black women and community members could share their experiences, analyses, and visions for the future was particularly important to us. The diversity of participants from academia, activism, cultural work, education, and social work enabled a multidimensional and intersectional approach to the topic.

With this publication, we hope to contribute to making Black feminist perspectives more visible and to encourage long-term discussions on fairer, more solidaristic, and sustainable models for the future.
